Local Court Act 2007 commences
The provisions of the new Local Court Act 2007 (NSW) have been proclaimed to commence on Monday 6 July 2009 by Notification on 3 July 2009. This Act makes significant changes to how matters are handled in the Local Courts in NSW. For information about this new Act, it is worth reading the second reading speeches and explanatory notes from when the Local Court Bill 2007 passed through NSW Parliament.
The Local Court Act 2007 will replace the separately constituted local courts in New South Wales with the Local Court of New South Wales, which will sit at various locations across the State. A similar change occurred in 1973 when the District Court of New South Wales was created from a number of separately constituted District Courts.
